On May 14, 2015, on my complaint due to a bad experience, the New Mexico Environment Department made an inspection. There were a total of 6 High Risk Violations including: Mouse droppings under dry storate rack Burger held a 125 degrees Improper green chile defrosting Bare hand contact with burger Employee drying hands on a dirty rag instead of a paper towel Pork stored above beef, possible cross contamination All were corrected. On further examination of the Heath depts. record, the problems go back to August 2014, including a demand by the health dept. for a full and professional pest abatement. You decide

Great, great, I mean great Burgers! The staff is super nice and friendly. The food is served fast and hot! Fries are killer and the burgers are big and juicy. My soda was never below half full, the waiter kept checking on us. We were in town and this was my second time visiting this place. Next time I am in Santa Fe I will definitely be back.

The burgers are adequate, the service is not. No one followed up to see if our order was correct, and the appetizer showed up with the meal. It took for ever to get the check. By the way, it was not busy.

This is a great burger joint! The bison burger is my favorite. They have a burger of the month each month. This month it's a lamb burger. They offer craft beers with happy hour everyday 4pm-6pm. The meats come from the Harris Farms and are grass feed and hormone free. If you are in the mood for an old fashioned burger, stop by!

Really understaffed the night I was there. The food is good. It was very noisy. Had to wait a while to order and another long while for the check. I was never able to get a refill on my water. Every table was filled and they only has two wait staff. They were doing the best that they could, but they need more help.

Horrible service, rude server. Food was ok. Server never came back to check on us. Appetizer came with the meal. Not worth the wait. Actually I would give this -1 star

There is a Small outdoor space that often features live music and it's nice on a warm night. Inside tends to get pretty noisy. They serve good burgers, as you can probably tell by the name, but they also have good side selections. Kids love it here...good, simple children's menu with Mac and cheese, burgers and ice cream. Don't order the onion rings...the order is too small for the price and they are not very good, The Fried dill pickles and green beans are terrific. My burger was great but so big I could only eat half. They feature a different burger each month and they are well worth trying. Restrooms are clean and spacious. There is plenty of parking. The waitstaff is really friendly and they are very good to kids. There is a bar with a television which usually has some kind of sporting event on it. The TV is pretty small for that big a space, though. They are in the DeVargas Mall so the location is convenient.

Five stars for Five Star Burger. I'm familiar with the menu from previously visiting the Albuquerque locations but the servers and bar tenders here seem much friendlier and more knowledgeable. Always a fan of a good happy hour deal, also the variety of dipping sauces are pretty dope. Good music selection and the burgers are awesome. I can't vouch for the lamb burger but the classics are consistent. This is a great place for a beer and burger with fries.

I'd like to give this 3 1/2 stars as it's not quite four star but definitely better than three. When I first moved to Santa Fe, I was afraid it was going to be hard to find a burger there. I thought Santa Fe was going to be vegetarian city but boy was I wrong. It's a burger town, and 5 Star ranks up there just below Santa Fe Bites and Shake Foundation. As it is very close to where I live, I tend to got there regularly for their chile cheeseburger and a brew. All I can say is it's a good, honest burger. Their bun could use some work, it tends to fall apart but it doesn't keep me from going.

Five Star service, great Green Chile burger and fries on a beautiful Sunday. Patio is open some football on tv. Iced Tea is fresh. Come on over if your hungry.

This place is awesome! I ordered a burger to go and the bartender who took my order was super friendly and kind. He even offered to time the order to accommodate the time it took to drive from my house. When I got it home, best burger ever! A lot of the time take out orders can be less than perfect. But my burger was cooked perfectly and the green chile mayo is tasty. To the gentleman who gave this place 2 stars because a server had a nose ring: you're an idiot.

Great food, good service. I had the Green Chile Cheeseburger cooked medium rare and it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. My wife had the Grilled Cheese Sandwich, which was also quite tasty. We also ordered the fried green beans which were good, especially dipped in the Green Chile mayo, however I don't think I would order those again.

This is a repeat of the 4/14/14 review previously submitted. For some reason, this review and rating are not counted in the overall rating for Five Star Burgers. Additionally, it was relegated to Yelp's "review hell" and I have no idea why. It's a fair telling of my experience and contains my justified recommendation to not eat there, so I am re-posting it until it once again is shuffled off to an area not obvious to the casual Yelper. ========================================================= 4/14/2014 This was our second visit to Five Star. We were a party of 4, arriving about 5:30pm, Sunday, April 13th. It was fairly busy, but not overly-so. We waited for about 15 minutes to have our order taken. In the meantime, we were brought drinks. About 5 minutes later, our order was taken (~5:50pm). At about 6:15pm we asked our server about the status of our order. At about 6:25pm, with no word from our server, we told another of the wait staff to tell our server that we would be leaving of we didn't get served in another 5 minutes. At 6:30pm our server told us it would be about 3 more minutes. Finally, at about 6:40pm the food was delivered. And, my burger (ordered medium) was raw. I sent it back and they put it back on the grill for another few minutes. In the meantime, other people who had arrived after us had their orders taken, had their food served, food eaten, and received their bills before we were served. By the time it got back to the table, the other people in our party were either finished or nearly so, and for the most part I ate all by myself -- feeling rushed -- while they sat there. The server did comp my dessert, which I was thankful for...and, I still left her a decent tip. But, in the overall, the service was downright awful...the entire meal needed to be comped, in my opinion, to make up for the awful service. Alas, this will probably be our last visit...and, I cannot recommend, sorry.

The servers were really nice. I appreciated a clear view of football. Wasn't thrilled with the burger it was a bit greasy. The lamb burger was ok much better than the five star burger but left feeling like it was more on the side of fast food burger.

visited again because, ok, i admit it. I like the fried jalapenos. This time my "well done" old timer was bloody raw. The cooks know nothing about consistency. I bet that if i ordered two well done burgers i'd get one burnt to a hockey puck and one raw. on the same ticket. how is this place still in business? Oh right. Santa Feans don't have any taste.

  • Leila Z.

I'd call this place two star burger. I mean, it is a step above McDonalds but probably one down from Wendy's. The fact that someone in the back of the house is having a sneezing fit and someone else is coughing like no tomorrow is kinda gross, and also a reason servers should get paid sick days. Anyway, don't bother with the salads, but if you do, make sure to add chicken or something to it, they are pretty bare bones here!

  • Doug M.

Decent burger, but the rest of the menu is blah. But that's not why you go right? I gave this location two stars because the restaurant is literally FREEZING! We thought it was a one time issue but every time we came it was the same thing. Bring your coat. Even after complaining the waitresses said she always wears 'three pairs of pants and a coat! We won't be back until summer!

Stopped by for the first time and expected to get a burger but wasn't expecting to get the best tasting burger ever! Harris Ranch Beef - next best thing to a steak! Green Chile Mayo topped it off. Our server and Bartender were very friendly and focused on customer service. Going back for happy hour and will try their Fried Green Beans which I heard were amazing. Great selection of wines too. Can't wait to go back again!

Very pricey, everything is a la carte. The foot was good. I had the chicken chilli burger.

  • Clare M.

That was a (excuse me) damn fine burger. I got the bison but with the green chile, pepper jack, green chile mayo and grilled onion. Nom...big ole nom! This was my first visit and I look forward to trying other tasty compilations! And I haven't had them yet, but deep fried green beans...yeeah...mmmm. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about this place, not sure if my good experience was a fluke or not. Regardless, I'll go back.

Every time i have been to this restaurant i go there understanding that they do not place ketchup or condiments on the tables for their customers to use....they require you to request these items and they then bring them out to you in little paper ramekins 15 minutes after your hot food has been delivered to your table!! In knowing this i pre-ordered the condiments to the table before i even ordered our food! Still the condiments were delivered 15 minutes to the table after the food was dropped off!! Worst customer service ever, simply because of this my family and i won't be returning, ever. Maybe we will just bring our own condiments to your establishment since they are treated as if they were gold.

Have been here a few times. I order my burger medium and every time the bottom bun is a soggy mess. A "Five Star Burger" I would think would use a leaner beef. I will get a Del Charo burger instead. They may be pre packaged but at least the meat is better.

Good burgers but I lost my appetite after seeing my server's nose ring

Not the best experience. Five of us Came in at 4:00. Place was not busy. Waited way top long for the food. When it was served, they only had four of the orders. Forgot a burger and the two orders of fries. I had the green chili cheeseburger. Little to much sauce for my taste. Sweet potato fries were good. Quinoa salad was a hit. All in all, not a must return experience

I love burgers and always enjoy trying a new joint. I had heard good things about Five Star and expected greatness with a name like that. They didn't live up to the name but I will be back to try them again. First, the positives. I arrived and was seated right away. That's right, this is a real restaurant, not a fast-food joint. My server was prompt and got my order right away. The food arrived faster than expected. Now for the not-so-good stuff. I ordered a medium-rare green chile cheeseburger. Usually if I ask for medium-rare in a burger I end up with medium and I was expecting this to happen here, but I was surprised - it was actually medium rare. Unfortunately it was so dripping wet with grease that I could not hand-hold the burger. What I assumed was a bun was a soggy mess that dissolved in my hands. The plate itself was awash in at least a half cup of grease. It would be nice if they could use a leaner grade of beef or to otherwise let the meat drain a little. The taste was good. The cheese was perfectly melted and soft, green chile had that wonderful New Mexico sweetness and heat. I saw several items on the menu that I would like to try before giving a thumb up or down on this place but for now it is just, meh.

I'm kind of on the fence about Five Star Burger. Sadly, my experience with the restaurant has gotten progressively worse each time I eat there. I first ate at Five Star Burger at their original Taos location and it blew me out of the water. The burger was perfect. The quality of the burgers here at their new location in Santa Fe has been pretty hit or miss for me and I'd like to blame that on the fact that they're just not completely established yet, but who knows. The burgers: The buns are delicious. Perfectly cooked, fluffy and tasty enough. They soak up the meat nicely. The meat hefty and will leave you feeling full and satisfied but not stuffed the way most greasy burgers do. You can really tell the meat is fresh and thoughtfully tended to. The big problem I've run into is the way the meat is cooked. I don't like a lot of pink in my burger, so I always order it cooked well, but every time I've had a different result. Sometimes meat comes out too dry, other times with too much charcoal flavor. If they could make their cooking style more cohesive and distinguishable, then I'd be a more loyal fan. The variety of burgers are great. The original Five Star Burger is a little bland compared to something like the Taos Burger which is phenomenal (a fried slab of green chile). The green chile cheeseburger is a bit overpowering on the chile-side and a sloppy meal. It's also a shame the burgers don't come with fries--especially since their fries aren't anything to write home about. They taste, look and feel honestly just like McDonald's fries; definitely not worth the up-charge. The green chile mayo though... I could eat that for days on end. It is perfection. The staff is a little on the weird side. Not very professional and lots of standing around. Like I said, very hit or miss.

As the 4 of us approached the door, the hostess held it opened for us. It was very helpful because it was my older friend and I with my 1 1/2 year old twins. Happy hour had just started (4:00) and we were seated immediately where we had requested. The hostess got highchairs right away and we were introduced to our server within a few minutes. She was very friendly and pointed out it was happy hour but everything was available. The happy hour is so inexpensive and delicious! We had turkey sliders, onion rings, fries, & milkshakes. The green chili mayo is unique and amazing. Our food was ordered and served within several minutes, and everything was cooked perfect. Throughout our meal the hostess checked on us as well as our server a few times. It was wonderful & service was genuine, and especially great being with 2 young children we needed "stuff" often.

I am a sucker for the new ala-carte "gourmet" burger joints. I am really not sure why so many bad reviews, but this place was solid! The reason I didn't give a 4-5 star is because I think it was a bit overpriced. It was $21.00 for me alone. I had the bison burger which was just okay UNTIL I added that incredible green chile mayonnaise! What a treat that was, (being that I am not a big fan of the smothered chile everything.) however, this was what set the burger off. Don't pass on that. The fries were very similar to Burger King fries. Nothing to write home about. Great service

180 degree improvement in service! Food very good. They've obviously done some staff training because service was perfect. When we entered it was not crowded and the hostess asked where we'd like to sit -- gave us a perfect table. Service was prompty and everything we ordered came out on time and to our satisfaction. The waiter also brought us condiments before our food arrived -- much appreciated. I am glad to put this place back on my list of great burger places in Santa Fe. Thanks so much for taking comments to heart.

If your idea of dining out includes outstanding discourtesy, alarming rudeness and the worst customer service this is the place for you. To boot, the food is not noteworthy; however, I wouldn't be publicly putting this heathen restaurant on blast if it were not for the astoundingly HORRIBLE customer service. The waitress actually argued with us about whether a side of mayonnaise was indeed the creamy white condiment it notoriously undoubtedly is. This perversion of the- customer-is-always-right became the least of the offenses for this evening, which I won't bore discerning readers with, as the account would be lengthy. Five stars? More like five middle fingers.

Great service! Awesome food! Great experience! If you want a great burger, salad or sandwich at a great price this is the place to go. I will definitely return. They have a great happy hour as well that we plan to try out next time! Thank you five star!

I hate to say it, but third time we've been there and still the service is terrible. Burgers are good, but not that good. Better service at other burger joints in town. Sorry guys.

Great Happy Hour! Fried green beans are a must! Burgers are very good. Service can be a little inconsistent. Be sure to order your appetizers and wait for them to arrive before ordering a main dish. If you order at the same time you might have your fried green beans delivered after your burger. Otherwise it is wonderful!

Even though some of the reviews weren't that great my family and I decided to go here on our last night in Santa Fe. We all agreed - great burgers! The food was really good and the service was great. Nothing about this dining experience was bad - we would go back again.

Came here last weekend with a friend from out of town for dinner and LOVED it! We came during happy hour (which I suggest all you do if you think the food is overpriced). Ordered a beer, the happy hour sides of sweet fries, fried pickles, fried green beans, and fried green chile strips. Of all that we had, my personal favorite were the fried green beans, especially when paired with the dipping sauce. As for the burgers, we had a Taos burger and then one of the portabello mushroom vegetarian burgers. Bother were awesome! I don't often choose anything vegetarian on a restaurant menu, but it was so flavorful and delicious that I'm glad I did! My only complaint for the whole evening was that the fried green chile (although prepared in a very creative manner), is a hit or miss--more often a miss. Some of the chile strips were WAY overcooked and the cornmeal(?) batter they use overwhelms the chile itself at times. Overall though, not only was the food great, we got a table full of it for a little over $30. Which isn't bad considering we weren't able to finish most of it. And, with the great service, we should be back soon! I approve for sure.

OK, straight up. My medium rare "5 star burger" was quite tasty. And really it needed to be because the entire burger joint is named after it. There are better burgers in this town, but this place is OK too. They also serve extremely cheap sliders, which I'll probably investigate next time. They skimp on the fries tho. It was really busy, but the wait service was pretty good, and refilled my lemonade twice while I was there. The color scheme is iffy at best, but that's OK for a restaurant in a strip mall location. They also have free wifi, but you have to get the password (shh, it's the restaurant's name)... So I'm bumping them up a star. My only complaint is that the lettuce seemed a wee bit soggy. So that's a minor issue.

Normally, Santa Fean's don't go for chains. As a hyperlocal population, family-owned and one-store establishments earn favoritism. And here's where Five Star is unique. Born out of Taos, people still feel local eating here, and their acceptance is rewarded. Five Star offers five or six delicious burgers. While this isn't the best burger in town, it's the best from a simple restaurant. With the exception of chains like Blakes or the diminutive Bert's, it's the only true burger joint in town. Every burger is great, and although the meat is juicy and fresh, I'd like a little more on taste. Regardless, the fries and fried green beans more than make up for it. Bottom line, it's not best burger in American, and not the best in Santa Fe, as USA Today claims. However, it's damn good and worth a visit, several actually.

As bummed as I was by the departure of Java Joe's at this location, I'm equally happy to see that what has taken its place is a better than average burger joint. I think the previous negative reviews might have been because the place has only been open a few week as I write this. Restaurants need time to work out the kinks. I had the "Old Timer", medium and added cheddar. It was cooked perfectly and was very yummy. My date had the "5 Star Burger" and it also was cooked to perfection and had gorgonzola and bacon. He gave it 5 stars (haha). They offer a killer green chile mayo that has just the right punch. We shared an order of fries. They weren't the best I've ever had, but pretty decent. Service was friendly and efficient. The Blue Moon on tap was ice cold. (They serve beer and wine). We ate at the bar and Benjamin took great care of us. I really can't complain. It's nice to have another go-to spot in my little part of Santa Fe, and so far it's looking good for these guys. The place was packed on a Sunday afternoon.
